my nap, their dinner

The weather has been great. Rain, warmth, clouds, rain.

I was so tired after work yesterday. i decided to relax the night away, so i went outside to enjoy the lovely skies for a bit.

Blanket wrapped around me, book in hand, i went out.

Not too long later, i found myself curling up onto my side, laying on the little white bench outside the house. i took a nap.

It was beautiful.

But something attacked me when i didn't expect it...well, i was sleeping...
This morning i had so many great plans. then i realized.....

Something ate my face. and my arm.

We were swollen, red, itchy.....

Stupid bugs.

lehi..doesn't know what hit em

I just got back from a trip to visit tia jenny.
She lives in lehi, utah.

This trip was filled with so many firsts! i was going to do a different kind of post, but as i thought about my trip i realized "nope. definitely need to do a 'firsts' post instead."

1) First time riding a greyhound

2) First time riding a horse (cross that off the bucketlist :D)

3) First time learning to skateboard [that's me in the middle]

4) First time calling 911

5) First time driving in utah

6) First time being the hair-dyer, not the hair-dying-watcher

It was a good time. lots can happen in 6 days!

greyhound

A small tragedy took place on the greyhound today. somewhere between cedar city and provo....i fell asleep.

You see, this is the first time i've ever traveled by greyhound. daddy dropped me off at the bus gathering. i waited in line behind dozens of weary travelers. some sitting on their luggage, some dozing off with headphones in and hoodies up, some anxiously glancing around at all the other pre-boarders. i was one of the glancing-around ers.

My ticket in hand, luggage at foot, and backpack between my legs, i waited. looking and acting like i'd done this before. i'm a good actress. and i have a solid "don't mess with me" voice and look at times such as these.

"Don't wander up and down the isle when you get in. it's probably just as well you take the first seat you see..." dad advised as we inched up in line.

"The best seat is the third row back behind the driver. that way, you get a breeze every time the door opens, and you don't have to deal with the strange people and screaming babies in the back." i remembered my friend, who often takes the greyhound, telling me days before.

I boarded.

There was a shuffling of people and tic-tac-toeing of seats being taken. i walked halfway down the isle, scavengering for a place. then quickly decided to hustle back toward the front and claim an open seat asap.

"Got 4th row back on right...next to a big guy.
He seems harmless..." -ME

"I hope he is. You can call or text me or mom any
time throughout the day. Good luck!" -DAD

The man i sat next to was a large Mexican. not english speaking...but he sure tried. we had mini conversations throughout the ride. i conversed a little in spanish as well, but honestly i wasn't much in the conversing mood anyway, so i gave in to the solitude of bus riding for most of the way.

He was super nice & friendly. he even considered buying me something from mcd's when the bus stopped to eat in st george. "I was thinking about you" he said after everyone reboarded, "i wasn't sure if you had something to eat already." it was funny coming from a chubby mexican man in broken english with a big goofy grin on his face. made my day. haha

The journey continued. the bus driver was great. he went 80 mph the whole way. we were passing up all the little cars on the highway and making record time. he even wore those cool flip-up sunglasses for good measure and took total control of the trip. i trusted him, which is good. i was able to rest peacefully.

But like i said, somewhere between cedar and provo, i dozed off. doubled over and with my blanket wrapped snuggly around me.

I'm sure you are all familiar with the dreaded stranger-fell-asleep-on-your-shoulder threat that can potentially occur any time you travel next to someone you don't know.

Well, here's where the tragedy lies...
That person was me!

I started off sleeping something like the girl in purple, which is where i sat:

And i woke up on his knee!!!! oh the shame!!! there i sat waiting for him to say something....nada.

Whew.

But i can't believe it was me. of all dreaded luck! of all crowns of horror! of all the tabulating wolves of humiliation! >>>I WAS THE SLEEPING STRANGER. on the man's knee of all things! well, i guess that was the good part. that part of it could've been much worse...but still!

The man was so nice. i fell asleep again shortly after and you know what he said??

"You sleep for one hour!"
I nodded.
"Tha's gooood," he said as he gave me a thumbs up and smiled.

I chuckled inside. this man is somethin else. of all people to awkwardly fall asleep on, i'm glad it was him haha.

As we arrived to SLC, he said "This trip was good. i made a new girlfriend...girlfriend? girl-friend? friend that's a girl...how do you say? amiga?"

Me: "Friend"
Him: "Yes." then he smiled again. "Next time i come to vegas, i will visit you in the hospital!"
Me: "Aw you don't want to visit me there, it means that you are probably my patient! and that would be bad"
He laughed. "Yeah. but i will still visit you anyways."

Hahahaha not really what i expected on my first greyhound adventure, but at least it was memorable.

blog book

I visited my friend cindy's house just under a month ago, and we talked about a secret treasure. a treasure made of paper, pictures, and memory.

She found it at a place called blog2print at http://blog2print.sharedbook.com/blogworld/printmyblog/index.html.

Just type in your blog address and it automatically creates a book out of all your blog posts. then all you have to do is customize it and buy it.

So after i spent some time at her house and we toyed with it a bit, i am definitely looking forward to creating my own blog book. i'll probably wait to gather a few more posts first, and touch up a couple things.

I guess that's the biggest downer -- any audio, animation, or videos obviously aren't going to come out. but what you could do instead is add a description of what that animation/video was for future reference in the printed book.

I'm excited! time to catch up on my blogging de nuevo. so i can make this ^^
You guys could do it too!! that would be cool.

donny and marie

Who wants to go to the Donny and Marie show for free tomorrow night. We must arrive between 6:30-7pm to guarantee a seat. Any takers? - Tues Jul 9, 6:27pm

DonnaLyn sent out a mass text asking who'd be interested in going to the Donny & Marie show at the Flamingo. zumba can wait. i needed to respond right away! this was too exciting to delay.

She sent me the contact number so that I could also request a couple more tickets - heck yes.

Meet at the showroom at 6:30pm tomorrow at the flamingo hotel... - Will do, donnalyn, will do.

I ended up getting 4 tickets of my own with a call or two. Batta-boom! 4 tickets does not cover my family though....I should've been more aggressive when asking for those free tickets. I'll learn.

Ultimately, Amy, Dad, Mom, and I ended up going. we met DL's group outside the showroom.

The really nice security man told us that Donny was sick, so it'd be more of a 'Marie' show, with invited guest, older brother Merrill to spruce up the show in his place.

We got fair seats in the back. the photographer made his rounds.

We had fun reading the 'fun facts' about the osmonds on the big overhead screens.

Just before the show started (they were running late by a good half hour), one usher guy came to my family's table and motioned us to follow him. gladly. we followed him one, two, three levels down...all the way to the front row of the stage! we were informed that we now sat in the most expensive seats of the house. woah!

from that little red dot where I sat with my little black dotted family. the table behind us includes the rest of the group/DL

I chuckled with guilty delight, but I didn't want to make eye contact with my friends who were still left clear toward the back entrance. thankfully, the ushers eventually motioned them to closer seats as well.

to the new spot right up front. DL's group got moved to good spots too, see?

We danced, we boogied, we came on screen now and again for all to see. I tried to look top notch for my big screen premier moments.

The show was okay. I was too focused on looking good for the spotlight and cringing at Marie's singing spit to fully enjoy the show. It was also a little improv-ish what with Donny not making it and all, but Marie and Merrill covered for it well.

Cool story: my aunt in Utah is good friends with Marie Osmond. my cousins babysit for her kids.
So I felt some sort of weird connection to her without her ever knowing about my all-too-stalkerish thoughts.

And there you have it. from $0 seats, to $300 seats...I felt like a winner. I don't know what brought on such a luck streak, but I like it. thanks DL!

stuffed on costco samples -- it happens

Want to know what i've been up to lately?

EMBARRASSING STUFF. as usual. but this time it was intentional. because sometimes people just have unexplainable urges to do crazy things, right? right.

Today i went with a certain someone to costco. it was not my idea - surprisingly - to see how many times we can go around to all the sample tables without getting caught...

We brought a couple disguises, change of clothes, hats/beanies/glasses, even red suspenders....just in case.

Our story began with trail mix, tortilla chips, apricot pieces, burrito, sushi, corn dog, doritos, rice, and much more deliciousness over and over again....we were rockin it. but we were too good. we decided to change the "rules" to this adventure as we went to make it more challenging.

"Ok. what if we have to look the person in the eye & say 'thank you' each time....
"What if we have to have a conversation with the person before we move on......
"There's too many stations, let's pick a top 5 or so and stick to those, otherwise we'll never get caught!...."

We ended up only with a few questionable glances from the sample-rs. but not one "aha! you've been here already" nope. nothing like that.

We only changed clothes/looks once. and no body even kneeeew.

The winning story: THE TRAIL MIX LADY

She was one of the first stations we stopped at. she was also the last. the first time, i had a conversation with her that went something like:

TML: "....has almonds, cranberry pieces, yogurt chips, rai..."
ME: "It has yogurt chips in it?"
TML: "Yeah! these little white chips are actually yogurt!"
ME: "OHH I always thought it was chocolate!!..."
TML: "Haha, a lot of people think it's chocolate"
ME: "Well, i feel a lot healthier eating it now!"

Several samples, one donning of a sweatshirt & messy bun later...we returned. i wonder if i have the exact same conversation as the first time, if she'll recognize me..?

TML: *didn't look up.*
ME: *i hovered there for a bit. then, lifting up the bag of trail mix*
"What's in this?"
TML: she briefly glanced up. "cranberry pieces, almonds, yogurt chips, nuts..."
ME: "Yogurt chips??"
TML: she looked up & i now had her attention. looking straight into my face, she exclaimed "Yeah! you know, a lot of people think it's chocolate! but it's not, it's actually yogurt!!"
ME: "Reaaally?! i always thought it was chocolate!"
TML: "That is so funny!"

SUCCESS. same conversation. same lady. with me not even looking that much different than the first time.
AND SHE DIDN'T NOTICE.

So, despite the awkward glares shoppers gave our gathering stack of sample papers and cups. we made it through with full bellies. the shopper who took a picture of us holding our spoils at the end said "well, this is a first for me. you guys got lunch AND dinner....and then some!"

Our count: 50 samples. not including the 4-5 we accidently threw away.
We are boss.
