EMBARRASSING STUFF. as usual. but this time it was intentional. because sometimes people just have unexplainable urges to do crazy things, right? right.Today i went with a certain someone to costco. it was not my idea - surprisingly - to see how many times we can go around to all the sample tables without getting caught...
We brought a couple disguises, change of clothes, hats/beanies/glasses, even red suspenders....just in case.
Our story began with trail mix, tortilla chips, apricot pieces, burrito, sushi, corn dog, doritos, rice, and much more deliciousness over and over again....we were rockin it. but we were too good. we decided to change the "rules" to this adventure as we went to make it more challenging.
"Ok. what if we have to look the person in the eye & say 'thank you' each time....
"What if we have to have a conversation with the person before we move on......
"There's too many stations, let's pick a top 5 or so and stick to those, otherwise we'll never get caught!...."
We ended up only with a few questionable glances from the sample-rs. but not one "aha! you've been here already" nope. nothing like that.
We only changed clothes/looks once. and no body even kneeeew.
The winning story: THE TRAIL MIX LADY
She was one of the first stations we stopped at. she was also the last. the first time, i had a conversation with her that went something like:
TML: "....has almonds, cranberry pieces, yogurt chips, rai..."
ME: "It has yogurt chips in it?"
TML: "Yeah! these little white chips are actually yogurt!"
ME: "OHH I always thought it was chocolate!!..."
TML: "Haha, a lot of people think it's chocolate"
ME: "Well, i feel a lot healthier eating it now!"
Several samples, one donning of a sweatshirt & messy bun later...we returned. i wonder if i have the exact same conversation as the first time, if she'll recognize me..?
TML: *didn't look up.*
ME: *i hovered there for a bit. then, lifting up the bag of trail mix*
"What's in this?"
TML: she briefly glanced up. "cranberry pieces, almonds, yogurt chips, nuts..."
ME: "Yogurt chips??"
TML: she looked up & i now had her attention. looking straight into my face, she exclaimed "Yeah! you know, a lot of people think it's chocolate! but it's not, it's actually yogurt!!"
ME: "Reaaally?! i always thought it was chocolate!"
TML: "That is so funny!"
SUCCESS. same conversation. same lady. with me not even looking that much different than the first time.
AND SHE DIDN'T NOTICE.
So, despite the awkward glares shoppers gave our gathering stack of sample papers and cups. we made it through with full bellies. the shopper who took a picture of us holding our spoils at the end said "well, this is a first for me. you guys got lunch AND dinner....and then some!"
Our count: 50 samples. not including the 4-5 we accidently threw away.
We are boss.
